Exhibition: “KIm Gordon - Design Office: Noise Name Paintings and Sculptures of Rock Bands That Are Broken Up”
Music is art, we all know that. However, Kim Gordon turns the art of music from acoustic into visual. Her very special exhibition “Design Office: Noise Name Paintings and Sculptures of Rock Bands That Are Broken Up” is exactly what it says: A tribute to bands that still exist and to the memory of those that broke up and that worked with jarring cacophony and other aspects of what is now called noise music.
The exhibition presents paintings and floor sculptures, while the soundtrack that accompany acoustically the show is the recording of the performance of Body/Head (Kim Gordon & Bill Nace) from the opening night of the exhibition.
Just for the record, Kim Gordon is multi talented, working for the last 30 years as artist, designer, writer, fashion designer (X-Girl), musician (founding member of Sonic Youth, she’s now performing as Body/Head with Bill Nace) and film/video actress and director.
The “Noisy” exhibition is presented in Benaki Museum, in collaboration with the DESTE Foundation.
